First Phase 3 retatrutide trial appears in a peer-reviewed journal
TRANSCEND-T2D-1 was published in The Lancet — the first and, so far, only Phase 3 retatrutide trial to be externally peer reviewed rather than reported only by the sponsor.

What changed
The type 2 diabetes trial went through external peer review and full publication, which means the methods and the complete dataset were examined by people outside the company.

The four TRIUMPH readouts remain unpublished. The regulatory status is unaffected — journals do not approve drugs.

TRANSCEND-T2D-1 tested retatrutide against placebo in adults with type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar was inadequately controlled on diet and exercise alone. It was published in The Lancet on 13 June 2026.
This matters for a specific reason that is easy to lose. Everything else known about retatrutide's Phase 3 programme comes from press releases: documents written by the sponsor, reviewed by the sponsor, and released on the sponsor's schedule. Those releases have been detailed and have included unflattering numbers such as discontinuation rates, which is to their credit. They are still not the same thing as independent scrutiny of the full dataset.
A publication does not change a drug's regulatory standing. The FDA reviews the submitted application and the underlying data, not the journal literature. But for anyone trying to judge how solid the evidence is, the difference between “the company reported” and “peer reviewers examined it” is the difference this site tries hardest to keep visible.
